Oven/Cooktop Repair Services
Most oven and cooktop calls come down to an oven that won't heat, a burner or element that's out, or a temperature that's off. Below are safe checks you can try first, and when it's time to call. Your technician will find the cause and tell you honestly whether the repair is worth it.
Safety first: before you check anything behind or under the range, unplug it or switch off its breaker. On a gas range or cooktop, please don't touch the gas line, valve or fittings. Your technician will check the gas supply. If you smell gas, leave the house right away, don't use light switches or phones inside, and once you're safely outside call 911 or Atlanta Gas Light's emergency line at 877-427-4321 (Atlanta Gas Light). Please don't open panels or work on wiring yourself; that's what your technician is for.
Common oven and cooktop problems we fix (and what to check first)
Oven won't heat (or takes forever to preheat)
Try this first:
- Confirm you selected Bake or Broil, not a timed delay or Sabbath mode (GE).
- Check the home breaker for the range. Many electric ranges use a double breaker; if one side trips, the lights may work with no heat (Whirlpool).
- On a gas oven, confirm the gas shutoff valve behind or near the range is open (GE).
- Look for an error or "Loc" / Control Lock on the display and unlock it if needed.
More detail in our guide: Oven Not Heating? Common Causes.
Call us when: an electric oven still won't heat (bake element, broil element, sensor or control), or a gas oven's igniter doesn't glow and light. Those parts need a technician to test safely (GE).
Electric burner or element not working
Try this first:
- Make sure the coil element (if removable) is fully plugged into its receptacle (Whirlpool).
- Try a different burner to confirm the issue is only one surface.
- Reset the range breaker fully off, then on.
Call us when: one burner stays cold, a radiant surface never heats, or the infinite switch / element needs replacing. Surface elements and glass tops shouldn't be forced.
Gas burner won't light or flame looks wrong
Try this first:
- Confirm the burner cap is seated flat and the ports aren't clogged with food. Wipe crumbs gently when the cooktop is cool.
- Make sure the gas shutoff is open.
- If the igniter clicks but never lights, stop and call. Don't keep forcing it.
Call us when: a burner won't light, the flame is mostly yellow, or you smell gas. Leave the house and call 911 or Atlanta Gas Light at 877-427-4321 if the smell is strong (Atlanta Gas Light).
Oven temperature inaccurate or uneven
Try this first:
- Use an oven thermometer to compare the display to the real temperature.
- Avoid covering the racks with foil that blocks airflow.
- Check your manual for an oven calibration option before assuming a part has failed (Whirlpool).
Call us when: food burns on one side, the temperature is way off after calibration, or the sensor / control needs testing.
Oven or range won't turn on / display issues
Try this first:
- Check the breaker and any Control Lock setting.
- Reset power for a few minutes.
- Write down any error code before you reset.
Call us when: the display is blank or stuck, buttons don't respond, or power is present but nothing starts.
Oven and range error notes
Error codes vary widely by brand and model. Write the code down, check your owner's manual, and tell us the code when you book. Common themes are control lock, door lock (on self-clean models) and sensor faults. If a code returns after a power reset, your technician will start there.
